Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) says 2018 saw an increase in the number of Restrictive Business Practices cases it handled.
The commission also says it investigated a total of sixty-four cases out of which nineteen were carried forward from 2017 and forty-five were reported new cases.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka CCPC Director of Consumer Protection Brian Lingela says the commission closed on a total of 39 of the cases investigated.
“During the year 2018, the commission saw an increase in the volume of cases related to anti-competitive business practices and consumer rights infringements,” he said.
Mr. Lingela says the cases investigated from various sectors among them are Agriculture, wholesale, and retail trade, banking and finance, real estate, services and manufacturing.
He says the services sector contributed fifty percent of the cases investigated standing at the total of forty percent followed by the wholesale and retail trade sector at twenty six percent recording twelve cases.
The CCPC Director of Consumer Protection says the commission in 2019 will continue contributing to Zambia’s foreign direct investment and ease of doing business by the facilitation of merger transactions.
