Government advised to revisit tax incentives

Government has been called upon to consider revisiting its position on tax incentives as this has contributed to the loss of revenues in Zambia.

CTPD Head of Programs and Research Brian Mwiinga is also urging the state to rethink its approach towards investments as there is need to realize that tax incentives are not the major prerequisite in attracting foreign direct investment.

Mr. Mwiinga says the government through Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) should revise the minimum investment threshold required for someone to qualify for Multi Facility Economic Zone (MFEZ) incentives.

He is further advising the government to ensure that it considers having clear Monitoring and Evaluation mechanisms for the Zones in the country.

He says there is need for proper coordination in the Management of the Zones by different Ministries and other government agencies.
