Government eases Covid-19 restrictions

• Zambia has in the last 12 hours, detected 91 Covid-19 cases with no new deaths in the last 7 days.
• Public gathering or events shall now be permitted to operate normally.
• The Ministry will continue to emphasize the need to ensure the wearing of facemasks consistently and correctly.

Government has eased Covid-19 restrictions following the reduction in positive cases and deaths in the country.
Speaking at a media briefing, Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo announced that there will be no restrictions on population movement, travel and business operations, adding that people travelling to Zambia will no longer need to have a Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.
Ms. Masebo however said one must be fully vaccinated to forgo the test, while those not fully vaccinated must provide evidence of SARS-CoV-2 negative by PCR test.

She further revealed that all learning institutions and work places will resume normal schedule, further urging managers of all public places and events to abide and enforce the measures responsibly.

“Following a COVID-19 risk assessment which revealed a low transmission rate of SARS-CoV-2, we have adjusted the following Public Health and Social Measures (PHSM) with immediate effect: Public gathering or events including but not limited to, weddings, parties, family gatherings, sports, music concerts, festivals, performances, parades, exhibitions, funerals, burials, religious gatherings and others shall now be permitted to operate normally but maintain masking up and practice hand hygiene.”
“We continue to emphasize the need to ensure the wearing of facemasks consistently and correctly as well as frequent hand hygiene practices in all learning institutions, workplaces, business premises, closed public events, on public transport, indoor public gatherings and any other congregate settings,” Ms. Masebo said.
Ms. Masebo added that going forward, there will be no need to seek authority from the Ministry of Health or Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) for inspections of premise to host public events, but that this may be revoked if public health security is threatened.

“All unvaccinated eligible individuals 12 years and above are encouraged to be get vaccinated at their nearest health facilities; and those who are fully vaccinated to get booster doses accordingly,” she added.
Zambia has in the last 12 hours, detected 91 Covid-19 cases out of 2,498 tests conducted countrywide, giving an overall national positivity of 4%, with no new deaths in the last 7 days.
