Government urged to implement policies aimed at protecting small businesses in the country.

Emerging Manufactures Association of Zambia has urged government to ensure pronounced policies aimed at protecting small business in the country are implemented.

Association President Agatha Nayame tells Money FM News in an interview that there is need to financially empower small and medium scale entrepreneurs in the country, if the pronouncement by the Vice President to have small businesses protected is to be attained.
“It is only when small and medium businesses are empowered financially that they will be able to compete fairly with their foreign businesses” Ms Nayame said.

She adds that empowering SME’S financially is the only way government will ensure it supports small and medium scale entrepreneurs as they will be able to grow their businesses.
“Zambian entrepreneurs have the potential to grow their businesses and contribute to the growth of the economy but that the challenge is that they lack financial support” Ms Nayame said.
Ms Nayame says SME’s need support of how they can accesses necessary information to expand their business.

Last week Vice President Inonge Wina urged Chain Stores not to entrench themselves in high-density areas such as compounds as they expand their businesses.
Mrs Wina says doing so destroys the livelihoods of Marketeers and local grocery stores, family business and enterprising Zambians who cannot compete with chain stores.
