Govt clarifies on ‘dredging machines procurement’

The Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Development says it reported the MCD Civil and Mechanical Engineering Company to relevant authorities for failure to deliver nine Dredging machines.
MCD Civil and Mechanical Engineering was contracted to deliver 12 Dredging machines at the cost of US$11.8 million but only managed to supply and deliver three.
Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Development Minister Ronald Chitotela says in 2015, the government paid 72.5 percent of the total amount to the company as advance payment but that the company only delivered three failing to deliver nine.
Mr. Chitotela has disclosed that after several reminders, the government wrote to the company announcing the non-renewal of the contract on 13th October, 2017.
He says it was at this point that the matter was reported to law enforcement agencies and Solicitor General to take action for non-delivery of the dredging machines.
