Govt recruits in excess of 20,000 health workers as Rotary International emphasizes skills development

The Ministry of health has disclosed that government has so far recruited over 20, 000 health workers from a target of 30,000 by 2021 as one of the measures to transform the country’s health sector.
Ministry Director for Clinical services Dr. Alex Mokape says 10,000 more health workers are expected to be recruited in the coming year.
Dr. Mukupe says the ministry is also targeting to train an extra 500 specialists to operate within the country from the current 80 by 2021.
He says 6 specialist hospitals will be open in selected parts of the country by the end of the year and an additional 3 cancer diseases hospital will be established in the southern, Northern and central regions of Zambia.
Dr. Mukupe says government will also continue to invest in equipment in health institutions as it drives towards achieving the set goals for the development of the health sector.
He was speaking on behalf of health Minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya at the Induction dinner of the new President of the Lusaka Metro Rotary Club in Lusaka Last evening.
Speaking at the same event, newly inducted President, Chisebwe Fumbeshi has emphasized the importance of skills development and partnerships for growth to be realized.
Mr. Fumbeshi says he will leverage on the partnerships and technology to increase funds for the foundation and in-service delivery.
