Smart Zambia Institute says Government has being able to save about K72 million that was spent on printing pay slips for public workers following the introduction of electronic governance system.
Smart Zambia Institute Assistant Director – ICT Standards Nkula Mwanza says government used to spend about K72 million in printing and distributing pay slips for workers every month.
Mr. Mwanza said this when he featured on Money FM Business Radio’s Power, Policy and Money Programme that airs every Mondays and Thursdays at 9hrs.
Mr. Mwanza said the K72 million that has been saved is used on other essential public projects.
He also said the introduction of e-governance system has resulted in public institutions using a unified internet service as government used to spend K62 million per annum which has been reduced to about K28 million.
The Smart Zambia Institute Assistant Director – ICT Standards said this has resulted in government saving about K34 million.
He said in the past public institutions used to have different internet service providers and that is the more reason the government decided to have a unified internet service.
Speaking at the same programme, Smart Zambia Institute Assistant E-Governance Director Milner Makuni said there is need for Zambia to adopt digital services in all public institutions as it promotes transparency and accountability.
Mr. Makuni said cabinet, which is the highest decision making body, has too adopted e-governance system thereby saving money that was used on printing cabinet memos as well as fuel required to deliver the documents.
