Govt secures funds for SMEs

The Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry says it has secured some funds from the Finish Government aimed at accelerating small and medium enterprise growth in Zambia.
Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry Kayula Siame tells Money FM News in an interview that there will also be a grant to support SMEs in agriculture sector under the auspice of the Zambia Agri Business Project.
Ms Kayula says her ministry is also working with the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) under the Skills Development and Enterprise Project which aims at commercializing cassava farming and supporting SMEs in this sector.
“We are also revising the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Policy that has been in existence for almost ten years now. We want to include new developments in the SME sector in Zambia,” she said.
Ms Kayula says her ministry has further engaged the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) to help train SMEs in Zambia with entrepreneurship skills.
She adds that the SMEs should however be registered with the ZDA for them to be trained in this sector.
