Govt urged to lower requirement capital to invest in economic zones

The Public Policy Institute of Zambia (PPIZ) has observed the need to lower down the requirement to invest in multi facility economic zones.
PPIZ President Fabian Chewe tells Money FM News that the US$500, 000 capital requirement to invest in the zones is too much for local investors to consider investing in the zones.
Mr. Chewe says the government should consider lowering it to about US$200, 000 as this will attract a lot of investment in the zones.
He notes that the zones are mostly dominated by foreign investors because local ones cannot afford the US$500, 000 capital requirement to invest in the zones.
“We need to motivate local investors so that they too can invest in the zones by way of lowering the requirement capital,” he said.
Mr. Chewe has emphasized that the nation needs a lot of investment as this will work well in improving the country’s economy as well as job creation.
