Govt urged to prioritize dismantling arrears owed to contractors

The National Association for Medium and Small-Scale Contractors has called on government to prioritize the dismantling of arrears owed to local contractors in the construction sector.
Association President Mutale Mpepo has also hailed the government’s move to release K44 million owed to routine road maintenance contractors across the country.
Mr. Mpepo has told Money FM News that though the contractors were expecting the government to release about K100 million, this is a step in the right direction.
He has appealed to the contractors to be patient as the government has shown commitment in dismantling the arrears owed to the contractors.
Mr. Mpepo said when the government releases the funds to the contractors, this helps them in managing the operations of their companies.
He stated that this is an important part as it motivates the contractors to perform better.
