Republican Vice President Inonge Wina has assured the nation that the government is doing anything possible to increase the foreign reserves that have decreased to US$1.8 million.
Speaking during the Vice President’s Question Time in Parliament this morning, Mrs. Wina says the government through the Ministry of Finance in partnership with the Bank of Zambia is working hard to increase the foreign reserves.
Mrs. Wina is also hopeful that the Austerity Measures that were announced will also help in increasing the foreign reserves as this will contain excess expenditure.
She says the government is also focusing on resource mobilization both locally and internationally to support Zambia’s currency.
The Vice President also says government has released K20 million to needy sectors that need immediate funding.
Mrs. Wina has told parliament that part of these funds will be used to pay the farmers across the country who have supplied the maize to the state through the Food Reserve Agency.
