IBA reminds broadcasting stations to be ethical

The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has reminded all broadcasting stations to be ethical and professional in their work.
In a statement obtained by Money FM News, IBA Director General Josephine Mapoma said the Authority further guided moderators in facilitating discussion programmes with guests or the public to be mindful of their speech on air.
“As not doing so may have serious consequences for a broadcasting station,” she said.
Ms. Mapoma’s comments came in after the Authority noted with great concern the use of derogatory and demeaning language by a named radio station contrary to section 36 (a) of the Principal IBA Act of 2002.
She explained that the act, “requires broadcast stations to have respect for human dignity, human rights and freedoms and to contribute to the tolerance of different opinions and beliefs.”
