The Zambia Statistics Agency (ZAMSTATS) says inflation rate for the month of March 2020 has increased to 14 percent from 13.9 percent recorded last month.
Agency Interim Statistician General Mulenga Musepa said the increase was mainly on account of price increases in non-food items such as vehicles and Air fares.Mr Musepa explained that this means that on average, prices of goods and services increased by 14.0 percent between March 2019 and March 2020.
“The year-on-year non-food inflation rate for March 2020 was recorded at 12.7 percent compared to 11.6 percent recorded in February 2020, indicating an increase of 1.1 percentage points.” He said
Mr. Musepa however said the annual food inflation recorded a positive slow down to 15.2 percent from 15.9 percent in February 2020.
He added that the development was mainly due to slowdown of inflation related to items such as roller meal, maize grain, rice, fish and vegetables.
