Inflation up to 8.6%

The Inflation Rate for the Month of June 2019 has increased to 8.6 percent from 8.1 percent in the month of June 2019.
Central Statistical Office Director for Census and Statistics Goodson Sinyenga says the increase means that prices of goods and services increased by 8.6 percent between June 2018 and June 2019.
Mr. Sinyenga says the annual food inflation Rate for the month under review increased by 0.01 percentage points to 9.2 percent from 9.1 percent in May.
He has attributed the increase in the annual food inflation rate for June to price movements of food items such as fresh & dried Bream fish, Buka Buka fish, fresh & dried Kapenta and cooking oil.
The Acing Director says the annual non-food inflation rate was recorded at 8.0 Percent, a o.01 percentage point increase from the 7.0 percent recorded in May 2019.
Mr. Sinyenga says the increase in the nonfood annual inflation rate was mainly attributed to price movements of non-food items such Purchase of Motor Vehicle.
