The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has disclosed that it has been investigating Honeybee Pharmacy on corruption allegations since August 2020.
Commission Public Relations Manager Timothy Moono told Money FM News that this follows revelations of suspected corruption in the manner Honeybee Pharmacy was awarded a contract by the Ministry of Health to supply Medical Kits.
Mr. Moono said inquiries started arising from information the Commission received from a named stakeholder, adding that a number of witnesses and suspects have since been interviewed and investigations have reached an advanced stage.
“The Anti-Corruption Commission wishes to inform the public that following revelations of suspected corruption in the manner Honeybee Pharmacy was awarded a contract by the Ministry of Health to supply Medical Kits, the Commission has been investigating the above allegations since August 2020.”
“A number of witnesses and suspects have been interviewed and investigations have since reached an advanced stage. The Commission anticipates that the investigations will be concluded soon,” Mr. Moono stated.
He assured the nation that the Commission will not relent to bring to book any persons or entities that will be found wanting.
“Several individuals and entities have in the past few days called upon the Commission to pursue this matter. The Commission wishes to assure the public that it will not relent to bring to book any persons or entities that will be found involved in the corrupt activities,” he said.
It has been established that Medical Stores Limited was allegedly authorized by the Ministry of Health to distribute leaking condoms and defective gloves worth over US$224, 000 supplied by Honey Bee Pharmacy despite the supplies failing tests by the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS).
This came to light during the appearance of Ministry of Health, Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority, Medical Stores Limited, Zambia Bureau of Standards and Honeybee Pharmacy Limited, before the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee last week.
