The Zambia Youths Association in the Fight against Corruption (ZYAFAC) says the K470 million youth empowerment initiative announced by President Edgar Lungu on the Copperbelt targeting to empower about 15, 000 youths is a worthy social-economic undertaking.
Association Executive Director Maurice Malambo has since applauded President Lungu and government for continuing on the trajectory of rolling out citizens’ empowerment initiatives, more importantly those targeting the youth.
Mr Malambo has urged authorities responsible in the disbursement of the funds to be proactive and gender sensitive and ensure that more females are empowered, because they are the majority bearers of unemployment and poverty burden.
“We advise those responsible for the disbursement of these funds to be proactive and gender sensitive, because the female bracket population are the majority in the national population, as such they are the majority bearers of the unemployment and poverty burden,” He said.
He has further advised the youth and would be beneficiaries of the resources to commit to improving their individual lives by way of stamping foothold in the economy and contribution towards the general growth of the national economy.
“By the same token, we urge the youths and in particular the would be beneficiaries to take all rolled economic empowerment initiatives from the government with a sense of almost importance, personal and collective duty in terms of commitment to improving their individual lives by way of stamping foothold in the economy and contribution towards the general growth of the national economy,” Mr Malambo said.
On Saturday, President Edgar Lungu launched a youth empowerment initiative and package on the Copperbelt worth K470 Million, targeting to empower about 15, 000 youths.
