Kayula Siame extols media

Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary, Kayula Siame has commended the media fraternity for the inclusion of an entrepreneurship aspect in children’s programming during this year’s commemoration of International Children’s Day of Broadcasting.
Mrs. Siame observed that most media houses gave an opportunity to children to discuss various topical issues on business thereby building entrepreneurs of tomorrow.
She noted that the media is the reflection of the societal expectations and as such discussions on business related issues are an important part of awareness.
Mrs. Siame noted that as future leaders, it is important that children are exposed to entrepreneurship skills in the early stages of their development so that they understand business concepts while they are young.
“Children should be encouraged to take an interest in business related activities in order to develop innovative and competitive business ideas that will change not only their lives but the economy as well,” she said.
The Permanent Secretary has challenged parents to be involved in shaping the lives of their children into self-reliant future entrepreneurs.
“As parents, we are influential in determining the future of our children therefore, we must ensure that they understand the benefits and importance of running businesses and being employers instead of employees. This of course, calls for hard work and focus”, Mrs. Kayula explained.
International Children’s Day of Broadcasting (ICDB) is commemorated annually on the first Sunday of March since it its initiation by the United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in 1991. The 2019 ICDB was celebrated on 3th March under the theme, ”Ever child counts.”
