Kazungula Bridge to strengthen bilateral economic relationships

• The Bridge will create an alternative corridor.
• It will be used by various importers and exporters for the movement of goods and people.
• Zambia will benefit from the income flows and foreign direct exchange.

Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) says the commissioning of the Kazungula Bridge and one stop border facility will strengthen the economic relationship between Zambia and countries like Botswana, Mozambique and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Association President Dr. Lubinda Habazoka told Money FM News in an interview that the Bridge is a great milestone to countries in Southern Africa and will create an alternative corridor for the export and import of goods and services as Zambia is a land linked center of Africa.
Dr Habazoka said Zambia being at the center of Africa is going to be used by various persons, companies, importers and exporters for the movement of goods and people.
He noted that Zambia will also benefit from the income inflows and foreign direct exchange at the points of entry from neighboring countries.
“Zambia will benefit in terms of foreign exchange inflows and in terms of inflows from the toll fees and custom fees that businesses pay. This will strengthen the economic relationship between Zambia and countries like Botswana, Mozambique and Congo DR.
President Edgar Lungu and his Botswana counterpart Mokgweetsi Masisi commissioned the multimillion dollar Kazungula Bridge and One Stop Boarder facility, while African Union Chairperson and President of the Democratic Republic of Congo Félix Tshisekedi graced the occasion.
Also in attendance were Heads of State and Government among them SADC Chairperson and President of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi and President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa, Vice President of Namibia Nangolo Mbumba and Acting Prime Minister of Eswatini Themba Masuku.
