Kansanshi Copper Mine says it has trained about 34 thousand farmers in conservation farming in Solwezi District.
Kansashi Copper Mine foundation Supervisor Maximilian Katanga has told Money FM News in an interview that the mining firm last season supported 5 thousand farmers subsistence farmers to produce their own food.
Mr Katanga adds over 600 farmers in the province were supported to grow vegetables, in an effort to mitigate the shot age of the commodity.
Mr Katanga says the mining firm is also supported 1, 400 youth farmers in the province to grow energy maize an effort to make the proactive.
He says due to conservation farming practice maize yields have improved in Solwezi and the Province is expected to record a bumper harvest this.
He says as a result of the massive crop production by farmers engaging in conversation farming three milling companies have been set up in Solwezi and in 2018 purchased about 14 thousand of maize from the farmers in the province.
