• Dr. Kaunda before Zambia’s independence was elected as PAFMESA President an indication of his commitment to address continental challenges.
• Recall Dr. Kaunda’s memories from his outstanding leadership with other leaders like Dr. Julius Nyeyerere.
• Pan Africanist attention to the future of the continent is sleeping

Former South African President Thabo Mbeki has described Zambia’s First Republican President late Dr. Kenneth Kaunda as a convinced Pan Africanist whose focus was not only about Zambia and the region but on challenges and future of the Continent.

Speaking after he laid wreaths on Graves of Late President’s at Embassy Park in Lusaka, Thabo Mbeki recalled Dr. Kaunda before Zambia’s independence was elected as Pan African Freedom Movement for Southern Africa (PAFMESA) President an indication of his commitment to address the continental challenges as a whole.

The Former South African President further urged the current leadership to recall Dr. Kaunda’s memories from his outstanding leadership with other leaders like Dr. Julius Nyeyerere that were close to him.

He is if the view that if the current leadership recalled what President Kaunda said and did on the sacrifice he made for Zambians in pursuit of African struggle they might be inspired to focus on renaissance of the Continent.

“In reality I think Pan Africanist attention to the future of the continent is sleeping,” he said.

“Our leaders today are not paying sufficient attention to what the leadership that was provided by President Kaunda and others on these matters that have got to do basically with renaissance of the continent,” Mbeki added.

Thabo Mbeki was South African president between 1999 and 2008.
