Bwana Mkubwa Member of Parliament has hailed the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries for empowering rural community clubs in his constituency with 700 village Chicken layers.
Dr. Jonas Chanda told Money FM News that the wealth creation venture will go a long way in improving livelihoods of the beneficiary clubs who are mostly women.
Dr. Chanda said empowerment leading to productivity is the most effective way to fight poverty, adding that the chickens will be passed-on to more community clubs after eggs are hatched.
“I want to thank Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Prof. Nkandu Luo, and President Edgar Lungu for Empowering Community Clubs, mostly women, in rural Bwana Mkubwa constituency with 700 Village chicken layers. Under this ‘Pass-on program’, chickens will be ‘passed-on’ to more community clubs after eggs are hatched.”
“Empowerment leading to productivity, rather than handouts leading to consumption and dependence, is the most effective way to fight and defeat poverty,” Dr. Chanda said.
Yesterday, Minister of Fisheries and Livestock Professor Nkandu Luo empowered 23 women Cooperatives in Ndola with 1, 710 Chickens as a way to create wealth at household level under the Enhanced Small Holder Investment Program.
