• The reports are not true.
• LCC has not increased any levies in all the markets that are run under the Council.
• Marketeers themselves would have been engaged.
Lusaka City Council (LCC) has refuted some media reports that it has increased levies at COMESA Market.
Council Public Relations Manager Mwaka Nakweti clarified that contrary to the assertions, the local authority has not hiked levies in all the markets that it runs.
Ms. Nakweti said if the Council was to increase the levies, affected marketeers would have been engaged before effecting the hike.
“We would like to dispel some allegations in the media that Lusaka City Council has hiked levy prices at COMESA market. I would like to set the record straight, we have not increased any levies in all the markets that are run under the Council.”
“If that were the case, the stakeholders who are the marketeers themselves would have been engaged and they would have been explained to why the hike would have been necessitated, as it stands now we have not hiked any prices,” Ms. Nakweti clarified
