LCC equips parking attendants with point of sell machines

Lusaka City Council has equipped parking attendants along Cairo Road with Point of Sell (PoS) machines.

LCC Public Relations Manager George Sichimba says the move is aimed at enhancing accountability of parking fees.

Mr Sichimba said motorists will continue to pay cash to parking attendants, receipts will now be generated by PoS machines and not manual receipts.

He said motorists parking along Cairo Road and Shoprite Car park should from now onwards demand PoS generated receipts when they pay for parking.
“Parking attendants along Cairo Road and Shoprite Car park have been targeted first because of high turnover of parking but the project will be rolled out to the entire central business district (CBD)”, He said.

He adds that the City council has embarked on the programme to migrate from cash payments to cashless transactions to enhance revenue collection and accountability for public funds.

“Different modalities are being employed to achieve third objective and procuring PoS machines is one of the modalities being employed,”He said

“The other modality is that LCC has with immediate effect stopped accepting cash payments across the counter for council services at the revenue hall”

Mr Sichimba says all clients will now be required to pay through banks and only present deposit slips to Council cashiers for issuance of receipts.

He has further appealed to appeal to clients that use agents to pay for council services to make sure that their agents pay to authorised pay points.

The local authority will not be held responsible for payments made to unauthorised persons or organisations.

No cash payments should be made to LCC field workers in the field to avoid inconveniences.
