LCC records 579 BIDs in three weeks

Lusaka City Council (LCC) says its burial permit office has recorded 579 Brought In Deads (BIDs) out of 1, 396 deaths recorded between 22nd July and 11th August, 2020.
Council Public Relations Manager George Sichimba said the high number of BIDs recorded represents 41.5 percent of the total deaths recorded compared to 371 BIDs out of 1, 427 deaths, representing 26 percent recorded over the same period in 2019.
Mr. Sichimba stated that the rise in the number of BIDs is attributed to the observation that many people are not seeking medical attention from health facilities but are resorting to self-medication in homes for fear of being tested for COVID-19, which is contrary to Ministry of Health guidelines.
“Lusaka City Council (LCC) has noted with sadness the high number of Brought In Deads (BIDs) recorded between 22nd July and 11th August, 2020.”
“This is contrary to Ministry of Health guidelines which require people to seek medical help at health centers when they are sick or call 909 when they suspect COVID-19 symptoms,” Mr. Sichimba said.
He added that in this era of COVID-19, citizens should be alert and visit the nearest hospital for a check-up as soon as they observe abnormalities in their health in order to reduce fatalities.
“People who may be keeping patients at home are advised to consider taking them to the clinic for examination and treatment. The elderly and people with underlying conditions should be on high alert and protect themselves against contracting COVID-19.”
“With the high numbers of BIDs, LCC wishes to appeal to the general public to be cautious with their health and seek medical attention to reduce fatalities,” he added.
