LCC to confiscate illegally sold alcohol.

Lusaka Mayor says the local authority will soon start confiscating all alcohol sold in Grocery shops, houses and shebeens without the council’s approval.

Miles Sampa told Money FM News in an interview that most alcohol sellers in communities operate during unauthorized hours and cause noise pollution.
Mr. Sampa said the local authority will not only confiscate the liquor but also arrest traders selling alcohol illegally in order to promote sanity in the city.

“We are upping our game to go in the compounds to confiscate all illegal alcohol sold in shops and shebeens, they sale during hours that are not authorized and are causing noise pollution to residents,” Mr. Sampa said.

He also said Council is reviewing laws to reduce the number of hours bars will be open for clients so as to restrict drinking time between 16:00 hours and 22:00 hours.
“We will move in not only to confiscate the illegal liquor sold in townships but also arrest traders of illegal alcohol,” he added.
