LGAZ proposes new law for trading

The Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ) says Lusaka and other districts in Zambia should pass a by-law to restrict trading of foreigners to the Central Business District only.
Association President Engineer Christopher Kang’ombe, who is also Kitwe Mayor, says the association is working on the law in Kitwe to that effect.
He says there is currently no law that restricts foreigners from trading anywhere for as long as they have a license.
Mr. Kang’ombe says the district authorities will no longer issue trading licenses to foreigners to trade in townships.
Mr. Kang’ombe has also noted that most of the foreigners who trade in Zambia do not meet the K250, 000 threshold that foreigners are supposed to meet in order to invest in Zambia.
There have been reports and Complaints from local traders about unfair competition
