Lusaka Province Minister has attributed the challenges being faced in implementation of development programs in some parts of the Province to limited fiscal space the country is currently experiencing.
Speaking when he officially opened the Provincial Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) Virtual meeting, Bowman Lusambo however said government has shown commitment towards improving the welfare of Zambians through various infrastructure development in sectors such as Health, Education, Water and Sanitation, and Social Cash Transfer programs among others.
Mr. Lusambo stated that although the interventions have led to an improvement in livelihood, more still needs to be done to uplift people’s lives.
He appealed to technocrats to ensure prudent use of the available limited resources, while exploring innovative ways of finding solutions to people’s developmental needs.
“Government has demonstrated commitment to uplift the welfare of our people through various interventions which include infrastructure development particularly in sectors such as Health, Education, Road, Water and Sanitation, Social Protection Programs such as the Social Cash Transfer, women and youth empowerment programs among others. These interventions have led to an improvement in livelihood to some extent, but we are aware that more still needs to be done to make life better for our people.”
“Our appeal to you technocrats is to exercise prudence in the utilization of limited resources at our disposal, but also to explore innovative ways in the midst of these challenges, of finding solutions to the various developmental needs of our people,” Mr. Lusambo said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Lusambo explained that government is alive to the challenges Zambians are facing with regards to upward adjustments in prices of goods and services.
He noted that the country’s development needs are many, therefore effort has to be made to ensure the needs are addressed in a more efficient and effective manner.
“We also acknowledge as government the current challenges we are experiencing especially with regards to increase in the prices of goods and services. But our hope is that with your support as technocrats, we can overcome these challenges,” he added.
The objective of the Provincial Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) meeting is to take stock of the progress made in the implementation of developmental projects in various sectors within the Province and also to plan for the next quarter.
