Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway to be done after rainy season

• Government is working to ensure that a number of roads around the country are worked on.
• Lusaka-Ndola dual-carriage way is in a bad state.
• The previous Government wanted to do that road at a huge cost of US$1.26 billion.

Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development says works on the Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway will commence by the end of the rainy season with a revised cost.
Charles Milupi stated that government is working to ensure that a number of roads around the country are worked on because most of them including the Lusaka-Ndola dual-carriage way are in a bad state.
Mr. Milupi said the previous government wanted to construct the Lusaka-Ndola dual-carriage way at a huge cost of 1.26 billion US dollars but that the current administration will revise the cost.
“We are working very hard to ensure that a number of roads around the country, are worked on, but of uppermost importance, we want to see that the Lusaka-Ndola dual-carriage way is done. This government is not happy with the current state of that road” Mr. Milupi said.
He added that a number of contractors are already approaching government, expressing interest to work on the road at a cost lower than 1.26 billion US dollars; therefore government will construct the road at a much lower cost.
“You are aware that the previous government wanted to do that road at a huge cost of US$1.26 billion. Progressively, a number of contractors are already approaching this government and expressed interest to work on that road at a cost lower than that, so government will do that road at a much lower cost.”
‘Currently, the government hopes to deal with some preliminary procedures before works can commence on the Ndola-Lusaka dual carriageway project. By the end of the rainy season we will begin to see bulldozers on the Lusaka-Ndola Road,” he stated.
