The NGO promoting the proliferation of Zambian products, BuyZed, has encouraged the manufacturing sector to focus on producing quality products that can compete favorably on the international market.
BuyZed Campaign Founder Evans Ngoma tells Money FM News that it is also motivating that President Edgar Lungu has encouraged Zambians to embrace and support buying of local products.
Mr. Ngoma says the onus now is on the manufacturers to ensure that they do not produce substandard products that would dent the image of the manufacturing sector.
“Presidential pronouncements are a policy in nature. We are grateful that the President is encouraging Zambians to embrace the ‘Proudly Zambia’ campaign. This will surely help in growing the manufacturing sector,” said Mr. Ngoma.
He said the manufacturers will produce more products knowing that there is an available market for them.
He added that the producers on the other hand need to up their game in producing quality products.
Mr. Ngoma further said the local manufacturers should also work on packaging as this is key to attracting customers.
The BuyZed Founder said this will also position Zambia for the Africa Continental Free Trade Area.
