MAZ welcome construction of ‘presidential milling plants’

The Millers Association of Zambia (MAZ) has welcomed the construction of milling plants in underserved areas in the country under the presidential Milling plant initiative.
Association President Andrew Chintala said this will promote competition in the milling industry in the country which will eventually lead to a reduction in the prices of mealie meal which have been on a rise.
Mr. Chintala said competition is key in any industry without which there is compromise of products and services that are provided.
He however added that the sizes of the milling plants being constructed under the initiative should not give the commercial millers any reason to worry and has commended the idea of constructing the plants in areas that are not serviced.,
Mr. Chintala also reiterated that the plants are providing market to farmers in targeted areas and save on their cost of transportation when taking the goods to markets.
He further added that it will also be convenient for the consumers who will be able to buy the commodity at cheaper prices and will not spend a lot on transportation.
