The Ministry of Transport and Communications has disclosed that the Zambia Information Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) recently fined the three mobile service providers K12 million for poor service provision.
Transport and Communications Minister Dr. Brian Mushimba says government, through ZICTA will continue fining mobile service providers for as long as they continue offering poor service to customers.
Dr. Mushimba says there are issues of dropped calls, eaten minutes as well as data saying he shares the displeasure with mobile service customers.
He said he is not sitting idle on such matters disclosing that he has been engaging the three service providers on improving the quality of service.
The Transport and Communications Minister said it is for this reason that the government gave UZZI Zambia Ltd a license to give the three mobile service providers namely Airtel Zambia Ltd, MTN Zambia and Zamtel a good run to improve service provision.
He said ZICTA had given UZZI a six months extension up to September to start operating adding that by October, it should be able to penetrate the market.
Dr. Mushimba stated that UZZI is investing over US$400 million in its business in Zambia and that it will be able to create over 400 jobs for the local people.
Dr. Mushimba said the people should get value for their money in terms of accessing quality service provision.
