Zambia has recorded 4 new positive COVID-19 cases bringing the cumulative number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 74, among them a medical doctor.
Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya has disclosed at the routine media briefing that the Ministry conducted 322 tests in the last 24 hours out of which the four people tested positive for the virus.
Dr Chilufya says the number of active cases now stands at 36, with 3 deaths and 35 discharges.
He has further disclosed that the patients include a 23-year-old woman of Lusaka’s Matero Compound who was tested following an alert from members of the public after presenting symptoms of the disease.
Dr Chilufya adds that the other case involves a 63-year-old man of George Compound who was also tested following alerts from the public and also a medical Doctor from Chilenje Level one hospital, a primary contact to the 19-year-old lady who died at the same hospital, and a 52-year-old man from Kafue.
“The first case is of a 52-year-old man from Shikoswe out of the mass screening which was conducted in Kafue, the second is a 30-year-old medical doctor who was attending to the deceased from Chilenje, another one is a 23-year-old woman of Matero following an alert from the neighbour and the fourth is of a 63-year-old man of George compound also from an alert” Dr Chilufya said.
And the Health Minister announced that results of the suspicious death of the man from Choma who died at the University Teaching Hospital will be availed tomorrow Thursday 23rd April 2020.
He said mass screening will continue and be rolled out into Lusaka starting with Emmasdale and Chaisa before moving into Matero and George compound following increased positive cases with Kafue alone recording a total of 11.
“Let’s ensure we cooperate with the mass screening and with the health authorities. COVID-19 is still on the surge and we have to make sure it does not go beyond by taking action which involves you to stay at home and follow all the directives” he stated.
