Mopani hangs on a thread

Mine Suppliers and Contractors Association say the pronouncement by the government to suspend Mopani mine’s license will not affect the jobs of the miners as suggested by some members of the public.
In an interview with Money FM News, Association president Augustine Mubanga said the suspension of the mine’s license will not affect its employees because prior to this incident government suspended Mopani’s license for two weeks in 2019 and employees remained active and paid.
“We commended government’s decision as it is a clear indication that they will not overlook the law at any cost,” He said.
He has since advised Mopani to adhere and call back its employees.

Government has threatened to suspend the mining License of Mopani Copper Mines after the company allegedly breached section 55of the Labor Code when it sent over 11,000 workers on forced leave and cancelled running contracts with Mine Suppliers and Contractors.
