• NAQEZ happily notes that eligible students have now received their meal allowance.
• This good gesture will make economic, academic and social lives easy for vulnerable students.
• Government is attaching a lot of financial commitment to providing operational funds to public Universities.

National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) says government’s move to reinstate meal allowances for students in selected public Universities will make economic, academic and social lives easy for vulnerable leaners.
NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa applauded President Hakainde Hichilema for actualizing his electoral promise.
Mr. Chansa expressed happiness that eligible students have now received their meal allowances.
“NAQEZ happily notes that eligible students have now received their meal allowance. We have no doubt that this good gesture by the President and his administration will make economic, academic and social lives easy for our vulnerable students who have generally been struggling at Universities,” Mr. Chansa stated.
He also noted that higher institutions of learning are now stable because, Government is attaching a lot of financial commitment to providing operational funds to public Universities.
Mr. Chansa added that if this trajectory will be sustained, there will be harmonious working relationships between workers and management teams at the institutions.
“This will ultimately lead to non- disruptions in academic calendars and more productivity in Universities. Stability in lives of Universities is good for national development.”
“We hope that the Presidential commitment on meal allowances will be extended to the construction of the King Lewaninka University in Mongu, FTJ University in Mansa and hostels at the University of Zambia .These important projects have unnecessarily stalled, and it will be critical for Government to attend to them as quickly as possible,” he added.
During the presentation of the 2023 National Budget, Finance Minister Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane announced that meal allowances for students in public Universities will be reintroduced this year.
