New Finance Minister pledges to restore Zambia’s fiscal health, continue IMF discussions

Newly Appointed Finance Minister Dr. Bwalya Ngándu has says he will work towards restoring the Fiscal health of the country.
Dr. Ng’andu, who previously served as Central bank Deputy Governor says once fiscal health is restored, government will be able to address the income and expenditure challenges present.
He says this will in turn put more liquidity into the economy and enable it to start generating the wealth that the country desires.
Dr. Ngándu has also disclosed plans of continued engagement with the international Monetary Fund (IMF) for a program.
He notes that there are things that government needs to do including restoring fiscal health, to be able to engage the institution.
The Newly appointed Minister says there is need to constructively engage the IMF and agree on a program that can be implemented.
He says even if a program is not agreed, he will be keen on discussing with the institution about areas of engagement.
Dr. Ngándu was speaking to the media immediately after his swearing in at statehouse this morning.
