Police in Livingstone have arrested another Chinese national and a Zambian director of Alert Safety Security in Livingstone, who are both suspects in the case of unlawful drilling.

The police yesterday in Livingstone arrested eight people in connection with unlawful drilling and recovered shotguns and pistol.

This now brings to eleven the total number of suspects who are helping with police investigations with two Chinese nationals and nine Zambians.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso says the police have constituted a combined team of District Joint Operations Committee to probe the matter.

Yesterday Police in Southern Province arrested eight men, among them, one Chinese national, for unlawful drilling and using suspected military attire in Livingstone.

The seven Zambians who are employed by a named security company and owned by a Zambian were being trained by a Chinese national who ordered uniforms from China.

“Upon investigations, one pistol, seven shotguns and one big airgun with a box containing shotgun ammunition were recovered allegedly owned by the security company proprietor,” Mr. Kapeso said.

He says the group has been conducting trainings without clearance from the Police because the uniform used looks similar to the one used by formerly known as Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA).

He explained that they set up camp 10km north of Livingstone’s weighbridge and two kilometres off great north road.
