President Lungu honours Bicycles pledge

Eastern Province Permanent Secretary has disclosed that a total of 9,000 bicycles will be distributed to 18 constituencies of the province following President Edgar Lungu’s commitment made in November 2020 on a working visit.

Speaking in Sinda District of Eastern Province, Veronika Mwiche further revealed that each constituency in the province is receiving 500 bicycles which will be distributed to the Headmen.

“I must hasten to say that this is a very noble gesture which we should all appreciate and value. She said.

Ms. Mwiche has since urged Members of Parliament, District Commissioners and Headmen to look after the bicycles as they are for use in issues of mobility that will help them effectively conduct their task of working with the people in order to enhance development in their chiefdom levels.

Meanwhile, Local Government Minister, Dr. Charles Banda says the gesture by President Lungu has come at the right time when everyone is supposed to be mobilizing people for the development of the Country.

“First of all I would like to convey on behalf of my colleagues Members of Parliament, sincere gratitude to his Excellency the President of the republic of Zambia Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu for honouring the pledge which he made when he came to tour the Province.” He said.

Dr. Banda noted that there is plenty of work for headmen to do in villages which requires mobility.
