The University of Zambia (UNZA) has completed the construction of the state of the art teaching and learning complex at the Great East Road campus.
In a statement made available to Money FM News, UNZA Spokesperson, Dr. Brenda Bukowa said the complex housing two lecture theatres with a total sitting capacity of 700 students, will be commissioned by President Edgar Lungu tomorrow.
‘‘Arising from the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony to be graced by the Head of State shall be highly restricted to management of the University of Zambia and its partners, government officials and selected media outlets,’’ she said.
Dr. Bukowa said the teaching and learning complex was constructed using internally generated funds by UNZA through the partnership with Graduare Property Development Zambia Limited, the proprietors of East Park Mall.
‘‘The teaching and learning complex has been constructed at the main campus in the space between the Confucius Institute and the Population Studies teaching building,’’ she added.

Meanwhile, National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) said the newly constructed modern complex at UNZA will promote learning and teaching at the nation’s biggest learning centre.
NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa said the use of internally generated funds to construct the teaching and learning facility at UNZA should be commended and emulated by other universities in the country.
‘‘This majestic project is not only be important to the University of Zambia but the nation as a whole because it is housing two modern lecture theatres, two conference facilities, state of the art computer laboratories and office spaces,’’ he said.
Mr. Chansa observed that UNZA has moved with time and demonstrated capacity to overcome the acute shortage of infrastructure at the institution.
