Social Cash Transfer funds purported to have been misapplied are not from the Department for International Development (DIFD), parliament has heard. Vice President, Inonge Wina disclosed this during the Vice President’s question time in Parliament this morning.

Ms. Wina says it so happened that the person who raised the alarm did not realize that the money alleged to have been mismanaged was not from DIFD. She has further indicated that the money has since been paid back to DIFD.

And Ms. Wina has indicated that investigations into the matter are still active, saying its findings will be made public known once concluded. Last month, DIFD withdrew its funding to the Ministry of Community Development following claims that over 40 million kwacha meant for the social transfer scheme was misapplied.

This subsequently led to the firing of former Community Development Minister, Emerline Kabanshi and officers from ZAMPOST.
