• Rupiah Banda allowed the Ministers including law enforcement agencies to work on their own.

• That is one of the many areas that TI-Z will remember Rupiah Banda for.

Transparency International Zambia (TI-Z) says late 4th Republican President Rupiah Banda promoted accountability in public institutions by allowing Ministers and law enforcement agencies to work independently.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Organization President Sampa Kalunga said allowing people to work without interference is an important ingredient of good governance.
Mr. Sampa stated that Mr. Banda will be remembered for championing independence of government Ministries and other state institutions.
“In terms of accountability, Rupiah Banda allowed the Ministers to work on their own including law enforcement agencies they were given a lot of space to work independently and that is one important ingredient for good governance where you allow people to work without interference and as TI-Z that is one of the many areas that we will remember Rupiah Banda for,” Mr. Kalunga said.
He added that comparing Mr. Banda’s tenure and the last 10 years of the Patriotic Front (PF) in office, there has been an increase in corruption cases in the country but that this does not mean that there were no corruption cases during the late former President’s time.
“If we are to compare the time of Rupiah Banda and now including the last 10 years of PF, we have seen a rise in corruption cases but this does not say we did not have corruption cases in Rupiah Banda’s time, we still had corruption cases there were a lot of cases including his own son he was implicated in corruption case. The only thing I am saying is that today we have seen escalation of these corruption cases in the history of Zambia,” he stated.
And Mr. Kalunga described Mr. Banda as a non-confrontational man who championed peace at all times.
Zambia’s fourth Republican President Rupiah Banda died at his home on Friday 11th March 2022, after a short battle with colon cancer and will be out to rest at the Presidential Burial Site in Lusaka.
