Reregistration of vehicles to commence early 2019

The Ministry of Transport and Communications says it will in the first quarter of 2019 start the reregistration of all motor vehicles in the country as a way of knowing the total population of vehicles in Zambia.
The Ministry also says a total of 166, 418 offenders as at September 18th, 2018 were captured for exceeding speed limits on various roads following the installation of speed cameras.
The government through the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) embarked on the project called Intelligent Road Safety Management System that saw the installation of cameras on selected roads.
Minister of Transport and Communications Brian Mushimba says the planned move to reregister all motor vehicles in Zambia is aimed at promoting security.
Mr. Mushimba has told Parliament that the system will accord the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) to reregister all motor vehicles in Zambia.
Mr. Mushimba says this will also help the government to know the exact population of motor vehicles in Zambia.
“Mr. Speaker, you may wish to know that a total of 166, 418 offenders as at September 18th, 2018 were captured for exceeding speed limits on various roads following the installation of speed cameras. But these cases have been reducing on a monthly basis and this is what we want to see,” he said.
