SAFADA calls for review of agriculture development policies


• Zambia is still recording high levels of poverty, unemployment and hunger because of poor policy directions.
• It is imperative to measure the scored national development achievements.
• The gap that exists between policy planning and economic design attributes to low standard of development.

Small Scale Farmers Development Agency (SAFADA) has called on government to review and revise the economic and agriculture development policies for the country to achieve meaningful economic growth.
Speaking to Money FM News, Organization Executive Director Boyd Moobwe said it is imperative to measure the scored national development achievements and grass root development expectation with available valuables to determine if the attained levels of development respond to the needs of the people.
Mr. Moobwe noted that the gap that exists between policy planning and economic design attributes to low standard of development due to insufficient and incorrect data base and information.
“Although there is substantial trend of development in the country in terms of infrastructure and road network, it is imperative to measure the scored national development achievements and grass root development expectation with available valuables and social indicators to determine if the attained levels of development really respond to the needs of the people,” Mr. Moobwe said.
He added that lack of sustainable economic incentive for Zambian entrepreneurs and farmers and poor social protection is affecting the growth potential of the country’s economy and must be addressed as soon as possible.
“The majority of the rural and urban population is living in poverty cycles due to luck of consistent support,” he observed.
Mr. Moobwe further observed that Zambia is still recording high level of poverty, unemployment and hunger because of poor policy directions and implementation strategies that need to be addressed.
