Small Scale Farmers Development Agency (SAFADA) has advised government to identify committed companies that will be able to supply farming inputs following commencement of the tendering process for the supply and delivery of Urea and D compound Fertilizer.

Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Organization Executive Director Boyd Moobwe said government must ensure that the tendering process is done without any personal interests so as to effectively prepare for the 2022/2023 Agricultural season.

Mr. Moobwe noted that in the recent past, successive governments strived to engage some companies who ended up failing to supply the required fertilizer, hence the new administration should critically look into this matter.

“Government has strived to try to engage some companies to supply fertilizer, but at the end of the day there are a lot of issues so the new dawn government should think about this, they should critically look into this so that it’s not something that is done based on personal interests but on national interest.
The system should just be rechecked and see how they identify proper and committed companies that can supply and this should be done without any personal interest like what we have been hearing about other companies that cannot supply and some individual government officers who support suppliers for their own benefit and at the end of the day there is poor distribution of fertilizer,” Mr. Moobwe said.
He further said the bidding process should be open to the private sector who are interested to supply the commodity so that they can apply to Ministry of Agriculture.
On Monday, government announced that the Ministry of Agriculture has commenced the process of tendering for the supply and delivery of Urea and D compound Fertilizer for the 2022/2023 Agricultural season.

Chief Government Spokesperson Chushi Kasanda disclosed that the Tender will be conducted through Open National Bidding this Wednesday and called on all interested parties to attend the pre-bid meeting.
