Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) says it has arrested six people for trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
Commission Public Relations Officer Mathias Kamanga disclosed to Money FM News that Kevin Sissby Kaaya, 41 of Lusaka’s Obama area has been nabbed for trafficking in 6.4 Kilograms of heroin.
Mr. Kamanga said the suspect was arrested at Intercity Bus Terminus after he was found with the contraband that was concealed in packs of coffee creamer and baking flour, which came into the country from South Africa.
He added that the Commission has also arrested James Malele, 36, of Chimwemwe Compound on the Copperbelt Province for trafficking in 4 sacks of cannabis, weighing 40 kilograms, which are believed to have come into the country from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
“In a related incident, the Commission has arrested Pelekelo Byemba, a male aged 52 and three others of Lalafuta Area in Nkehema District of Western Province for trafficking in 8 x 50 kg bags of cannabis with a total weight of 143.8kg. Byemba is a farmer who cultivated the cannabis in one of his fields,” Mr. Kamanga revealed.
He said the suspects are currently in police custody and are scheduled to appear in court soon.
