The Department of Immigration between Friday, 17th and Sunday, 19th August, 2018 arrested sixteen people for various immigration offences countrywide.
These were two Filipinos and two Chinese nationals in Lusaka arrested for unlawful stay.
Others were two Congolese in Nchelenge and one Tanzanian in Kasama.
Those arrested for unlawful entry were five Congolese in Chingola and two Congolese in Mufulira.
Others arrested were one Burundian at Katima Mulilo Border Control, arrested for harbouring an illegal immigrant.
And Immigration Department Spokesperson Namati Nshinka says the Burundese who was harboured was also arrested for concealing his true identity.
Mr. Nshinka explains that during this period, the Department also secured the conviction of three people.
He says these were two Chinese nationals in Kitwe convicted and each sentenced to pay a fine of K 15,000 or in default 12 months simple imprisonment for failing to observe conditions of their Employment Permits.
He also discloses that the Department between Friday, 17th and Sunday, 19th August, 2018 also refused eleven people entry into the country for failing to meet entry requirements for Zambia and removed twenty eight illegal immigrants from Zambia.
The Immigration Department Spokesperson has since appealed to Zambians that those with information on suspected illegal immigrants should contact the Department of Immigration.
