Social Cash Transfer scandal: President Lungu fires Kabanshi

President Edgar Lungu has fired Community Development and Social Welfare Minister Emerine Kabanshi and has since replaced her with Nyimba Member of Parliament Olipa Mwansa.

Recently the United Kingdom Government suspended direct financial aid to the Zambian government over concerns about misuse of funds and corruption.

Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda says President Lungu has ordered for the immediate clean-up of Ministry of Community Development and Social Services and Ministry of Transport and Communications particularly Zampost.

Mr. Chanda has told Journalists in Lusaka that President met with Heads of investigative wings that include Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to inform them of the administrative changes that he has made.

He says President Lungu has also instructed Investigative Wings to quickly constitute a speedy criminal investigation to establish whether there was criminal liability over the social cash transfer.

And in another development, President Lungu has promoted Acting Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Major General David Muma to Lieutenant General and effectively appointed him as Zambia Air Force Commander taking over from General Erick Chimense who was fired recently.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony at State House, President Lungu has called on the newly appointed Community Development and Social Welfare Minister Olipa Phiri and Zambia Army Commander Major General David Muma to work extremely hard and not wait for the problems to erupt.

President Lungu has however advised them that they should not hesitate in engaging him on any matter.
