Southern Africa Cross Border Traders Association has implored on the government to extend its screening services to COMESA Market in Zambia’s capital Lusaka, following the closure of Nakonde Border post in the wake of COVID 19 pandemic in the country.

Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Association General Secretary Jacob Makambwe said this is because of the majority of cross border traders who come from Nakonde conduct most of their businesses activities in COMESA Market.

“That is where most of the cross border traders that come from Nakonde come to sale things.” He said.

Mr Makambwe says the government should further intensify screening in all markets noting that the tracing of those that could have travelled before the closure of the border post could take long.

“Places like COMESA Market should be a target.” He said.

He said at this point, all the markets are now suspected because all traders can sale anywhere including City Market.
