Spirit Manufactures in Ndola in 21 days ultimatum

The Ndola City Council (NCC) has given a strict 21 days ultimatum to portable spirit manufacturers to procure automated cleaning machines for bottles they use for packaging that will give a guaranteed safety to consumers of the liquor they manufacture.
NCC Public Relations Manager Tilyenji Mwanza says the automated glass bottle cleaning machines will allow for the bottles bring reused on the market to not only be rinsed but sterilized therefore killing any harmful bacteria.
Ms Mwanza says the ultimatum which was served to the spirit distillers was arrived at during a consultative and sensitization meeting between the distillers and the council public health department on hygiene and food safety.
“The meeting which comprised of 13 portable spirit manufacturers arose from the Councils concerns that the portable spirit manufacturers were not observing quality hygiene standards in the reuse of bottles and hence the Local Authority fears the transmission of bacteria which may be harmful to consumers maybe present,” she said.
Ms Mwanza states that the Council will therefore like to give a stern warning that any portable spirit manufacturer company that will fail to procure an automated cleaning machine within the given period will risk their businesses being closed.
