The Jesuit Center for Theological Reflections says stable power supply is key to increasing production in all sectors of the economy.
The center also says Zambia has not done much in terms of energy diversification despite the devastating impact of load shedding that the country experienced between 2015 and 2016.
JCTR Programs Officer for Social and Economic Development Innocent Ndashe says stable power supply is key to increased production in sectors such as mining, manufacturing, agriculture and other key sectors of the economy.
The JCTR Programs Officer for Social and Economic Development said this when he featured on Money FM Business Radio’s Power, Policy and Money Programme that airs every Mondays and Thursdays at 8hrs.
He noted that erratic power supply has a direct negative impact on the growth of the economy and hence the need to ensure that there is stable power supply to key sectors of the economy.
Mr. Ndashe said the Zambian Government should further increase its budgetary allocation to the energy sector as a way of diversifying the energy sector.
“Due to climate change, it is important that we intensify efforts to invest in other sources of energy such as solar energy and not solely depend on hydro-power,” he said.
The JCTR Programs Officer for Social and Economic Development said the government should further fund research in the energy sector as it strives to diversify the energy sector.
