Streamline emerald auctions to the locals

The Emerald and Semi-Precious Stones Mining Association of Zambia has called on all emerald producing companies to consider holding mini auction sales for local cutters.
Association president Victor Kalesha tells Money FM in an interview that local citizens should be given an opportunity to buy what they can afford at their own mini auctions as most are them are unable to compete on major auction sales.
Mr. Kalesha reiterates that producing companies should also streamline auctions to the locals instead of focusing only on foreign gemstones buyers.
Emerald production in Zambia has increased by 34 percent from 9, 475. 55 kilograms during the first half of 2018 to12, 696. 2 kilograms in the corresponding period in 2019.
